About Finland Kintsugi Assioaciation
In our Kintsugi Association in Finland, we hold a deep reverence for the principle of "Return to the earth". This guiding philosophy is not only a central tenet in the art of Kintsugi but also a profound ethos that shapes our approach to restoration and creation.
In the practice of Kintsugi, we adhere strictly to the use of natural materials, consciously embracing the idea that everything crafted should ultimately find its way back to the earth. While the convenience of chemical materials for restoration may be tempting, we recognize their environmental impact and the limited durability they offer. Natural materials, on the contrary, have stood the test of time, as evidenced by vessels restored with them that have endured for centuries.
Our commitment to the principle of return to the earth extends beyond the technique itself. It aligns with the broader cycle of life and decay, acknowledging that just as vessels return to the earth through the medium of natural materials, so too do our bodies. This cyclical perspective imparts a profound understanding that every element of our existence, from the lacquer used in Kintsugi to the vessels and our own physical beings, is part of a continuous cycle of creation, decay, and renewal.
By cherishing the concept that everything, including broken pieces, finds its way back to the earth, we derive a unique sense of beauty in the art of Kintsugi. It becomes a celebration of impermanence, a recognition that even in brokenness, there is an opportunity for renewal and transformation. Through our association's dedication to this principle, we not only contribute to the preservation of a traditional technique form but also advocate for a sustainable and harmonious relationship between human creation and the natural world. In embracing the beauty created by brokenness, we find a profound connection to the cycles of life and an enduring appreciation for the earth that sustains us all.
